Tips for shoot day

You

Neutral colored outfits are typically the most flattering, especially in outdoor locations. Pops of color can make a nice touch in jewelry, accessories, shoes, etc. Still, I encourage you to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, but also an elevated version of yourself.

For my graduates, bring items that represent you & your favorite activities! Sports gear, uniforms, instruments, art supplies, trophies, ribbons, banners, fishing/hunting gear, whatever makes you, you. Also, don't forget your cap, gown, tassel, cords, or anything related to graduation and your next steps (college, trade school, military, workforce, etc.)

Want your pet to join? Let's do it! Our pets make up a big part of our lives, and I love getting to capture those special relationships.

Your horse

I recommend having your horse "show ready." Bathed, whites brightened, groomed, brushed out mane & tail, show sheen, the works. Clean tack always helps elevate a pretty horse as well!

I also highly encourage fly spray during warmer weather to keep your horse happier throughout the session, which will make it easier to place their feet.

Lastly, if you plan on your horse wearing a halter in their photos, please have a nice, neutral colored halter for them to sport. For sale pictures, leather buckle halters give the best look and keep your pictures looking professional.

location

For sale photos, flat ground and a clean background will serve your horse the best. Trees, fields, and neat, level fences are acceptable in the background, but buildings and other distracting structures should be avoided.

For ranch sessions, I would encourage getting your facility extra clean and neat in the area(s) we will be shooting to elevate the overall look of your images. For black backgrounds, barn doorways are the most ideal spot, with the lights turned off and all other exterior doors/windows closed to block light behind the subject.

For portraits, we can get as fun and creative as we want! Clean, outdoor locations are usually my go to, but if your have somewhere special in mind, I'm game!

My #1 tip: bring your people to shoot day!

Extra hands help the day go by much smoother. From carrying your props and extra outfits, to helping set feet and get ears up, having a good team makes everything more efficient (and entertaining)!
